February 2016

Taking the online class is a real commitment. Many folks think that it is the easy way to go. It can be an easy (as in convenient) way to go for many. I like that we have access whenever we want...it can be at 2:00 am if you can't sleep, or 5:00 am if you are an early riser...

What I like most, though, is that you are taking things you are "learning" in this class and applying them in your own classrooms. I hate to ever see anyone do busy work...this work is "authentic", and will hopefully make your own classroom enriched with some new sources and some new ideas to engage your students in learning.

Make no mistake...this course is lots of work and takes lots of time to complete. I think it is worth it. Besides, you don't have to find a parking spot or drive through snow to do your work. No babysitter needed!

What are your thoughts on online learning? Please reply below to this or anything else you would like to write a few sentences about!

  1. I love on-line learning. It is so convenient if you are working or want to be on vacation. You just take your laptop with you. If you are working there are no classes you have to go to physically after working. Its just so convenient.

    1. Agree. As some of you already know, I have been in Florida since December 31...I can work on the course from anywhere, even on my lanai! So can you!

  2. I love online learning. I have had brochitis for the last month and although my assignments have been slowly completed, being able to do them when I feel okay has allowed me to continue in a class I need without missing class or infecting everyone. I also agree with Michelle that it requires self-discipline. I will say the first time I took an online class (not Jan's class) I did not have the correct technology at home and I ended up with over 600 posts that I had to either respond to to some how open to move on in the class. It was a nightmare. When I took your online class I persuaded a friend to take it at the same time so we could collaborate if either one of us got stuck and this made it more fun.

    1. Sorry to hear you are still fighting the bronchitis. Sure does beat driving to YSU, finding a parking spot, getting across campus, etc...that all takes your valuable time...much better at home in bunny slippers, even with an adult beverage if you like!

  3. I am really enjoying online learning. It is convenient because it can be done in the comfort of your own home. It is also giving me a chance to use technology on a daily basis. Self discipline with time management is definitely key, but I think well worth it

  4. You are so right, Michelle. So many folks think it is easier (which it is from a convenience standpoint)...you do have to be a self-starter! Everyone who sticks fairly closely with the weekly work is successful. As you have all noticed, I try to be flexible if you are getting a little behind here or there...sometimes life just gets in the way! As some of you may have noticed, last week I was off-grid for several days as I had a houseful of company...but I am back and caught up now!

  6. I really love online learning. It is wonderful to be able to work on it when you can and not have a set time for class. I love being able to work on it from home, school or wherever I need to do it. It is something you can take an apply to your class. I apologize again for being behind. We found out our dog - dear friend and baby - had an aggressive form on cancer in his nose. We've been caring for him and trying to spend as much time with him as possible. We had to have him put down on Tuesday. So very hard but we are thankful for all the years we had with him and that he is not suffering. I am going to try to catch up asap. Take care. Love, Becky

  7. I love the freedom of doing work when you want, also how you allow us to be expressive and creative.
